Navy Seal Admiral William H. McRaven's simple tip for productivity: start your day by making your bed, fostering small accomplishments that lead to greater success. Learn more at Skill Trekker.

Today, I want to share with you the ONE tip that Navy Seal Admiral William H. McRaven says can help you be more productive. You might think that it would be something really big or hard. Maybe even nearly impossible. After all, this guy’s a Navy Seal Admiral. You’d be wrong, though.

His tip to be more productive: make your bed every morning.

In his own words:

“If you wanna change the world, start off by making your bed. If you make your bed every morning, you will have accomplished the first task of the day. That will give you a small sense of pride and it will encourage you to do another task. And another. And another. And by the end of that day, that one task completed will have turned into many tasks completed.

Making your bed will also reinforce the fact that the little things in life matter. If you can’t do the little things right, you’ll never be able to do the big things right. And, if by chance, you have a miserable day, you’ll come home to a bed that has been made. That YOU made. And a made bed gives you encouragement that tomorrow will be better.”

This mindset is one that we can all learn from – that sometimes the best way to get a lot of things done is to start with something small.

You can start teaching your kids this mindset by encouraging them to take a few minutes each morning to make their bed.

If your kids don’t yet know how to make their bed properly, we’d love to have you join our Skill Trekker family. Making beds is one of the 600+ life skills we help kids learn every day.
